Vincennes Man Gets Max for Intimidation and Invasion of Privacy

A Vincennes man was sentenced to 3 years in jail for multiple counts of intimidation and invasion of privacy stemming from a November 2012 conviction.
A Knox County jury sentenced John Cowart to the max. Cowart was convicted of writing and sending an intimidating letter from jail in the year prior to his November 2012 conviction.
The judge in the case, Sherri Gilmore, has stated she levied the maximum penalty on Cowart because of his long criminal history with the courts. Cowart claimed all of his past offenses were minor and should not have any bearing in the current circumstances. He also maintained that he is not a danger to others in the community at large.
Meanwhile, Cowart faces additional charges for two misdemeanors. He will appear in court for those charges in April.
