Super Hero 5K was a success
VINCENNES – Saturday was a successful day for the Vincennes Animal Shelter as they hosted their first annual Super Hero 5K run and 1 mile dog walk.
The event was a fundraiser to help treat animals at the shelter that are battling Heartworm Disease. According to Vincennes Animal Shelter Director, Laura Arial, it costs around $90 per 22 pounds of dog. With that figure, it can cost as much as $400 to treat just one dog, depending on the weight.
84 people participated in both events. Arial called that a success.
In the 5K, Tim Courtney took home 1st place for the men with a time of 19:58. Andrea Holscher was the first female in with a time of 24:20.
There were also awards handed out for best dressed human, best dressed dog, and best dressed duo. Best dressed human went to Addyson Marchino. The best dressed dog went to Starsky, owned by Jackie and Scott Campbell. The best dressed duo actually went to a group. The group consisted of Donna Beaman, Jacob Midgett, and Brook Midgett along with dogs Pete, Cookie, and Barney.
Arial tells Hometown News that just over $3100 was raised to treat Heartworm disease for dogs who are suffering from it.
While Arial was happy with the turnout, one thing mentioned was that next year, they want more people and dogs dressed up in costumes. The shelter looks to continue the event next year.
