Siewers Wins Gold and Two Silvers at Age Group State Competition

Jacob Siewers, age 9, of the Vincennes Swim Team, competed in the USA Swimming State Age Group Competition this past weekend, Friday, March 14, 2014 thru Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

Siewers placed second in the 10 and under age group 100 yard freestyle with a time of 59.45 and the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.90. Siewers placed first in the 50 yard freestyle with a winning time of 27.74.  Siewers posted the fastest time in the 50 for the entire season in his age group.  He was also the only 9 year old boy that placed in the top eight for the 200 and 50 yard freestyle and one of two to place in the top eight in the 100 freestyle.

Siewers also placed ninth in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:11.63 and tenth in the 50 yard backstroke at 33.34.  Siewers, along with the rest of the Vincennes Swim Team, is coached by Mr. Jordan Walters of Vincennes.

Walters has coached Siewers for the last two years, one as an assistant and one as the head coach.

Walters stated, “I’m extremely proud and excited about Jacob’s performance this weekend in Indianapolis.  He is an extremely competitive and driven young man that came ready to race this weekend. He represented himself and his team very well this weekend and walked away the fastest boy in the state by winning the 50 freestyle in his age group.  He has a bright swimming career ahead of him and I’m excited to continue coaching him.”

Walters is a graduate of Vincennes Lincoln High School, University of Tennessee and member of the Vincennes Swim Team, (formerly VINY) where he was an accomplished swimmer at the state and national levels.
