Police responded to Shoals Community High School this morning after there was accusation of a weapon on campus.
It took several calls and conflicting reports till our HTN New Team was able to confirm that there was a lockdown at the school. After hearing scanner traffic of police responding to the school, several attempts to confirm were met with conflicting reports between police agencies and school officials.
The School Corporation office stated that it was only a “drill”. Calls to the Indiana State Police stated a gun had been found at the school and that Martin County Sheriff’s Department was handling the situation.
The final call was made to the Sheriff’s Department which stated they had no comment and a press release would be issued later. Shoals Jr./Sr. High School Principal Candace Roush contacted HTN and released this information:
“The lock down initiated by the Shoals Community School Corporation was the result of the accusation of a weapon on campus. With the assistance from the Indiana State Police and the Martin County Sheriff’s department, Superintendent Keller, Principal Roush, and the police have concluded that the accusation was unfounded, and no weapon was found after a thorough search of the premises. All of our children are safe and were not in danger at any time. We appreciate your patience in allowing us to complete our investigation.”
