(Atlanta, GA) — A new report links smoking with mental illness in the United States.
The report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds mentally ill adults in the U.S. smoke cigarettes at a 70 percent higher rate than those without mental illness.
CDC officials also say those with mental illnesses also smoke more heavily. The federal agency says smoking among the mentally ill has become a very serious health issue in the country and mental health facilities should work towards banning smoking at their buildings.
