Petersburg will need a new Mayor this year

Jon Craig is resigning his post as Mayor of Petersburg to accept a position with the state.  His new title will be Deputy Director of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs or O-C-R-A.  The department’s mission is to “provide resources and technical assistance to aid rural communities in shaping their visions for community economic development”

Craig was offered the job when he met with Lt. Governor-Elect Sue Ellsperman and shared his ideas with her about how to make Southern Indiana a more vibrant and economically developed part of the state.

Craig’s last day as Mayor will be January 25th.  The Craigs intend to continue living in Petersburg.

Sherry Hayes, Craig’s secretary, tells Hometown News that while they’re excited for him, they’re very sad to see Craig go.  They hope the next mayor of Petersburg will care for their city as much as he did.
