Obama Nominates Chuck Hagel As Secretary of Defense

(Washington, DC)  –  President Obama is nominating former Nebraska Senator Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense.  Washington Note publisher and Hagel friend Steve Clemons says being a Defense Secretary is different today.

Hagel, a Republican, is a decorated Vietnam War veteran.  In a speech at the White House, the President called Hagel an American patriot who performed heroically while injured in Vietnam.  If confirmed by the Senate, Hagel would become the first Vietnam vet to head the Defense Department.
