(Undated)  –  Coca-Cola is launching a new ad campaign aimed at getting people to watch their weight, not just drink more Coke products.  Marketing Professor Ira Kalb with the University of Southern California tells CBS’ “This Morning” the ads are meant to protect their corporate image.

A new two-minute spot will air on the highest-rated shows on CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC.  The ad highlights Coke’s record of producing reduced-calorie drinks and points out that gaining weight is the result of consuming too many calories of any sort, not just soda.

Another ad that will run later this week during “American Idol” and before the Super Bowl features a montage of people in activities that can burn off what the ad calls the “140 happy calories” in a can of Coke.

It’s aimed at correcting what Coke’s research shows is the misconception about how many calories are in a can of the soda.
