Margaret C. (Smith) Applen, 86, Vincennes, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014 at the New Willow Manor. Margaret was born June 14, 1928, in Knox county, the daughter of Virgil and Bertha (Wetzel) Smith. She married Louis “Vern” Applen, and precedes her in death. She was a homemaker and worked in the antique business for 40 years. Margaret was also a member of the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Montgomery, IN.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Ronald) Donaldson of Montgomery, IN; grandson, Ronald “Bo” Donaldson Jr. of Indianapolis; brother, Virgil (Penny) Smith of Vincennes; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Mildred Nowaskie, Rose Perry, and Shirley Vantlin.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Vincennes Chapel, 313 Church St. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. David Fleck officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Elnora, IN.
