Lady Chargers Defeat Lady Alices 

The Pike Central Lady Chargers’, Stephanie Richardson (9) had two hits in four attempts, one run and a walk-off RBI double during the victory over the Vincennes Lincoln Lady Alices by the final score of five runs to four in the first round of sectional tournament play. The Pike Central Lady Chargers defeated the Vincennes Lincoln Lady Alices during the first round of sectional softball play by the final score of five runs to four on a game that started in the evening on Monday, May 26 and would conclude due to a rain delay on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Jasper High School in Jasper, Ind.

The Lady Alices would score the games first run as Jade Montgomery would hit a sac-fly and drive in Jana Eubank.  Both teams would battle until in the top of the third when the Alices, Montgomery, blasted a two-run homer over the center field fence to take the lead three to zero.  The Chargers would get one run on a Montgomery wild pitch, sending Kimberley McCammon home from third.  The Alices would go three up and three down in the fourth leaving room for the Chargers to even the score.  The Chargers would load the bases and score two runs to make it a three all tie.  The Alices, rattled by an injury in the bottom of the third to a fellow Lady Alice, would step to the plate to start the fifth, with thunder in the distance.  The Alices would all be sat down in order as the game was called for lightning.  After a lengthy delay, the Alices and Chargers would resume play on Tuesday evening.  The Lady Chargers would start the fifth and would be scoreless.  The game would continue until the top of eighth inning where the Alices would plate one run.  The Chargers, Lauren Morton, would be the first batter of the Charger eighth inning and smashed a ball to left field to tie it up at four.  The game would go to the bottom of the tenth where the Chargers would hit back to back doubles, one by Presley Bryant and the other, Stephanie Richardson, to win with a walk-off double. The Alices would conclude the game with four runs, six hits and two errors.  The Chargers had five runs off of eleven hits and two errors.

For the Alices, Jade Montgomery went one for one at the plate with three RBI’s, a sac-fly and a homerun.  Montgomery was also the starting pitcher and went four innings allowing five hits and three runs, throwing fifty-nine pitches and forty-one strikes.  Jana Eubank would reach base three times with four attempts scoring two runs.

The Chargers, Lauren Morton, had five at-bats and two hits and scored one run, one RBI, one base on balls and one strikeout.  Morton also had one homerun to even the score after the Alices had pulled away in the previous inning. Presley Bryant went two for five, scoring two runs.  Stephanie Richardson had two hits in four attempts, one run and a walk-off RBI double.  Richardson was also the winning pitchers going all ten innings allowing six hits and four tens throwing 143 pitches with ninety-two strikes.

The Chargers will face the Heritage Hills Lady Patriots on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 7:30 P.M., at Jasper High School, in Jasper, Ind.  The Lady Alices finish the season at fifteen and thirteen on the year.
