Lady Alices Come Through Late to Win

The Vincennes Lincoln Lady Alices defeated the North Posey Vikings by the final score of twelve runs to four during a game at the LHS Softball Complex, in Vincennes, Ind., on Thursday evening, May 8, 2014.

The Vikings started off the first inning by plating three runs while the Lady Alices would creep back with two runs in the second.  Both teams would be scoreless until the top of the fifth when the Vikings scored one and left the Alices behind by two runs to start their half of the fifth inning.  The Alices would score five runs, taking the first lead for the game and make the score seven to four for the Vikings to start the sixth inning.  The Vikings would be sat down in order in the sixth as the Alices plated five more runs with the help from a homerun to left field by Haley Nowakowski.

The Vikings now down by eight looked at their last three outs as they had commanded most of the game.  Again, the Vikings would go three up and three down.  The Vikings would have four runs off of eight hits and two errors.  The Alices had twelve runs, eleven hits and one error.

Haley Nowakowski was clutch for the Alices in the win this evening.  Nowakowski had four plate appearances and two hits, one which was a three run homerun to left in the sixth.  Nowakowski was also the winning pitcher going five innings throwing seventy-four pitches with forty-nine strikes allowing one base on balls and striking out three batters.  Jade Montgomery came in for relief and went two innings and threw twenty-six pitches and twenty-one strikes with two strikeouts.  Montgomery had two at-bats with one hit, one run, two RBI’s and drew two base on balls. Shelby Boger added to the Alices victory by going one for three at the plate and scored once and batted in two runs and one base on balls.
