IL Lawmaker Wants Gym Shoe Tax
(Undated) – You’ll pay an extra quarter for new sneakers if an Illinois lawmaker has his way.

State Representative Will Davis of Hazel Crest says a 25-cent-per-pair tax on gym shoes would generate three-million dollars a year, and while consumers wouldn’t notice it, the money would fund the state’s YouthBuild programs.
Davis calls it a creative way to help young people, but the Illinois Retail Merchants Association says the measure would create unnecessary paperwork.
