(Lyons,Indiana) Newsbarb – Greene County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Major Mike Hasler has confirmed that a homemade explosive device was found on County Road 300 South between County Roads 500 West and 600 West on Monday morning.
Hasler said he was first made aware of the suspected bomb at around 11:30 a.m.
“The Ordinance Disposal Unit from Crane came on site and deployed two robots and were able to make the device safe,” he explained. “It appears that there had been an attempt to detonate it, but it failed. Not knowing the contents, the bomb disposal unit was able to destroy it and open it up so we could render it safe.”
The roadway has now been reopened, and Hasler said the evidence authorities recovered will most likely be sent to the FBI laboratory.
Hasler stressed that the incident is still under investigation and urged anyone who may have information about the explosive device, or who was travelling that road Monday morning and saw anything suspicious, to contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 812-384-4411.
