Illinois could be next to legalize gay marriage
Gay marriage is one of the hottest issues on the table before lawmakers in Springfield this week, and now Hollywood is getting involved. “Modern Family” actor and star Jesse Tyler Ferguson is asking lawmakers to legalize gay marriage.

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon says polls have shifted in favor of gay marriage, which has been gaining momentum in other states. Nine states and the District of Columbia already allow same sex couples to get married. Simon says it’s about time Illinois got on board. Religious groups oppose the idea but the proposal in Springfield would give them the choice on whether to perform the ceremonies. The State Senate is expected to vote on the measure this week.
