First-Time Claims For Unemployment Benefits Fall

(Washington, DC)  –  The Labor Department is reporting a drop in first-time claims for unemployment benefits.  Figures show 366-thousand initial claims were filed in the week ending February 2nd.  It’s five-thousand fewer claims than the week before.  North Carolina had the largest increase in new claims with layoffs in construction, oil and concrete industries.  California had the biggest decrease with fewer layoffs in all sectors.  About three-point-two million Americans remain on unemployment.
