Hand’s Termite and Pest Control in Washington is a family owned business located at 207 E. South Street.

Owner Roger Hand explained he has years worth of experience with the termite and pest control starting in his youth working under his uncle Butch White at White’s Pest Control.

White’s Pest Control opened in Washington in the 1950s, and during Hand’s youth worked for the business.

Hand said he moved away for a while to work as a pipe fitter, but the traveling was too much for his growing family. He came back to work for his uncle, and eventually purchased the business in 1984 and renamed it Hand’s Pest Control. He ran the business with his wife, Sandy.

In 2006, the business moved to the current location, which is the old Jones Body Shop.

Hand said they offer a variety of services, and are regulated by the state.

“We stay up all the latest training and application methods. All of our technicians are certified through the state, which we are regulated through the Indiana State Chemist Office, so there is certain criteria that we have to meet in order to go out here and apply our chemicals,” Hand said.

Each year Hand’s pest control handles the normal seasonal critters, including spiders, ants, roaches and fleas. He said often times their seasonal treatments depend on the weather.

“We deal with the same things every year. As the seasons change the bugs change,” Hand said.

Hand added something that makes them different from large pest control companies is they don’t required a contract for monthly visits to residences. Most of the residential services offered are done quarterly, which Hand said is beneficial as each new season approaches.

Hands pest control services are environmentally friendly and safe for children and family pets. They offer a preventative program for termites and a program that is less intrusive for homeowners.

“With our termite program, we opt for the Sentricon Baiting System, which it is very beneficial where it actually kills the colony whereas when you apply a chemical you are just repelling the termite,” Hand explained. Like everything, it’s only as good as the service it receives, and we do feel like we provide a pretty good service.

Anyone who has questions about services offered by Hands Termite and Pest Control can contact the business at 812-254-5208.

Hand noted patrons can stop by the office to discuss issues because even their office staff is knowledgeable about pests.
